Drawing a horde of fans, the Philippine national football team Azkals led the relaunch of a football school in Tarlac City last Saturday (26th Feb-2011 -nicky).

Fans dropped by to take pictures and ask for autographs from the players of Azkals who graced the Tarlac Football Academy reopening.

The Azkals said they took part in the event to promote football. They said they are hopeful that with their presence, they can help further popularize the sport in the province.

"It's nice to have this reception here in Tarlac... where football is really growing," said Azkals captain Aly Borromeo.

"To the football players here, just don't stop playing and believing," added Azkals member Paolo Pascual.

The Azkals said they are thrilled by Tarlac football fans' warm welcome.

Meanwhile, members of the said academy said they are ecstatic that the Azkals dropped by their city. They said the team's presence will definitely spur more interest for football among locals.

The Azkals are set to face the Mongolian Blue Wolves again in the second leg of the ASEAN Football Confederation Cup home-and-away series this March 15.

The players, who earlier clinched a home win, will have to beat or tie with the Mongolian football team to advance into the Challenge Cup group stage. – With a report from Nevi Calma, ABS-CBN News Dagupan
