DJ Mo, Angelica pick wrong fight

LONDON -- I love showbiz next to God, my wife, my son, daughter and football.

But I hate it when showbiz personalities comment about things that they do not know.

Sexy and award winning actress Angelica Pangalinan and TV and radio personality DJ Mo Twister have become the no. 1 and no. 2 enemies of the Azkaleros, the hardcore Filipino football fans.

The two showbiz personalities have underestimated the strength of the Azkaleros when they bashed the Azkals.

DJ Mo Twister lambasted the Azkals in his radio program and his show biz talk show. He has questioned the media exposure that the Azkals are experiencing these days.

The Azkals have entered into the consciousness of the Filipino people after their hard earned, 2-0, victory over host Vietnam in the Suzuki Cup.

The hardcore Azkals fans have started a word war with DJ Mo in the social network twitter. And DJ Mo has continued his attack.

He even compared the Azkals with the Philippine Dragonboat Racing team. He questioned why the RP Dragonboat Racing team is not getting the media attentions in spite of winning many races abroad.

Real Mo

DJ Mo Twister is Mohan Gumatay in real life. He was a struggling DJ and TV host in the late 90's and the early 2000's. He left for the US in 2002 when his contract with ABS-CBN was terminated, according to Wikepedia.com.

He came back into the world of Philippine showbiz in 2005 as a controversial DJ at a Manila radio station, revealing personal lives of sexy actresses. Aside from his radio show, he is a regular in the Juicy showbiz chat show over TV5 and Willing Willie also over TV5.

Angelica Pangalinan, who is Angelica Charlson in real life, has also made enemies from a number of Azkaleros, especially in twitter. There is even a threat of a court case against a Phil Younghusband fan after the fan wrote spiteful messages against Angelica.

Angelica's problem really started when she also questioned the Azkals popularity. She also questioned why the Azkals’ top striker Phil Younghusband is making an independent movie and advised him instead to concentrate in playing football.

She also supported her boyfriend, movie hunk Derek Ramsey and his sport Fresbie, stating that he has spent his own money in supporting the RP Fresbie team.

Her comments irked thousands of Azkaleros. Phil has quickly responded that the movie that he made was about football. He elaborated also that he has no intention of entering show business.

Keep mouth shut

As showbiz personalities who do not have any knowledge on football, Angelica and DJ Mo have no right to comment on the beautiful game. If you ask them, they could not even pin point a penalty spot. If I were them, they should just shut their mouths, concentrate in their showbiz careers instead of picking fights with the Azkaleros.

Angelica and DJ Mo, I think, also want to promote the sports close to their hearts, Fresbie and Dragonboat Race. But comparing them to football is like comparing Mercury to the Sun. Who follows Fresbie and Dragonboat in this country or in the world? Those two sports are not even Olympic sports.

Who follow football? Millions around the world and countless in the Philippines. There has always been a strong following of the beautiful game in our country. Millions have been converted after the Azkals defeated Vietnam and ABS-CBN showed their matches over at Studio 23.

Why is there so much buzz on the media exposure that the Azkals enjoy these days? There is only one answer. The Azkals have signed a one year contract to show all their matches on Studio 23 and ABS-CBN is just giving exposure to its investment.

Why did ABS-CBN decide to show the Azkals matches? They are good looking, they are successful and the public have embraced them. DJ Mo and Angelica should go to the gates of ABS-CBN with their placards and complain.
For the Azkaleros, do not take DJ Mo and Angelica seriously. We need your energies to support the Azkals. GOD BLESS jackbiantan@yahoo.com
